A question

Postby annettemarie » Fri Jul 17, 2009 12:45 am

Brothers and sisters this isn't so much as a prayer request as a question to all you parents out there.

Swine flu is becoming increasing bad over here in the UK, but in Scotland we are somewhat protected (well we are where we live). However, my daughter is due to fly from London on a 12 hr flight to see her father for his wedding in Mauritius (where they also have Swine Flu).

It means a trip to London where the SF is really bad, and her spending 12 hrs on a flight with 300 other people .... I guess I'm scared she is going to catch it. She has asthma so I'm really worried how she would cope if she did get it.

I'm not going with her....and she is going to be with her father who she hasn't seen for three years, and who is going to be caught up with his wedding plans and perhaps not worrying so much about her.

He calls me neurotic, and I guess I am...but she is so precious, what should I do? 55000 new cases of SW were diagnosed just this week here in the UK....

Would you send your only child into that or not?

I have hardly slept because of it......

Wow, I thought the Swine Flu was supposed to be dying down? I didn't realize there's so many over in London. Hm, this might be a good question for you to ask your daughter's pediatrician. Can you call them and ask what they think?
From my understanding, it's still hard to get and most people who get it have a mild case of it. Your doctor may even be able to give you some Tamiflu as a precaution for her to take with her in case she shows any symptoms.
Gosh, I'm just not sure what to tell you. I will keep you guys in my prayers and pray God will give you peace no matter what your decision. I'm sure she'll be fine but I totally understand the worry! Do talk to your doctor and keep us informed. Take care and God bless.

Hi there

I did ask the doctor for some tamiflu, but they said they weren't giving it out to travellers, even though who have asthma!

I'm not sure what to do....I don't think I'll know right up to the last minute...

Have been praying the Lord will give you clarity, Annette, and a deep sense of peace when
you understand His answer. This trip merits a lot of prayer and consideration, and every parent
here understands your fears!

Is Jess hoping to make the trip, or does she have reservations? If you feel she is mature enough
to travel alone, and capable of handling herself well in most situations, this may be an
a wonderful experience for her. Don’t be shy in asking those who will be caring for Jess
to answer questions that are bothering you - she is indeed your most precious child and
worth every one! Call her dad, the airlines, any and all of those who will have a hand
in ensuring this trip will be a safe one. If anything gives you pause, or doesn’t meet with
your expectations, say no. No one could better love Jess than you and the Lord - trust
He’ll make clear His yes or no with road-blocks or open doors.

Lord Jesus,

We praise You and thank You for our children, and know they are safe in Your hands.
We look to You for guidance when we are called to make any decision that bears on their
health and well-being. We pray today for Your clarity, Your peace, and Your leading
of AnnetteMarie as she considers what is best for Jess concerning this trip. May Your
hand move to clear away AnnetteMarie’s indecision - opening the doors wide and
unhindered, or closing them firmly! May Your peace prevail like a sweet balm as
she prays and follows Your leadings.

In Your Name, Lord Jesus, we pray and trust,

Amen.

Jess had a great holiday, despite feeling homesick and getting burnt from heat to toe on the first day.

She didn't get swine flu, or any other bugs, phew!

The Lord was indeed kind to us and returned her in one piece. You guys on here were such a huge help when I felt powerless.

Thank you x
